One of the fundamentals of bird feeding is providing a consistent source of food and water. Wild birds will not go hungry if you forget to fill your feeder, but it can take them awhile to come back if it has been empty for long. Don't be surprised if it takes a week or more for wild birds to begin feeding at a new feeder.
